I despise procrastination. Years ago, my wife and I chose to be N.O.W. people. N.O.W. stands for “No Opportunity Wasted”. We try and live by it both in work and life, (I admit sometimes things pass us by), but we’re doing what we want, how we want to do it, for no one else but ourselves. Great post Debe!
I appreciate your eagerness to move forward in life, Daniel! N.O.W. sounds like a great group to be a part of. That being said, there must have been a time or two when you chose to hold off on a decision or action as you thought about the outcome. That would give ‘procrastination’ the voice of a tool, rather than the adverse “dawdling” action. I always appreciate your comments!
Procrastination is a complex phenomena which definitely involves instinctive behaviors. Sometimes I hold back before moving forward because I am heeding a gut level response. Other times I may feel overwhelmed and delay action as I process various outcomes which help me to decide which action will serve me best. That’s when I’ll talk to someone I’m close to to help me sort things out. I have also found it helpful to visualize myself in action and “see” the outcome, which can move me out of the freeze of inactivity.
Maureena, I can so relate with your comments: procrastination can be used to our advantage especially if we use our ‘gut instincts’…and more times than not, it’s the appropriate action to take! Thanks for your comment.
